GAP Closing Courses

These safety training courses are specifically for students seeking to fulfill the GAP CLOSING requirements related to the USCG CFR-STCW and NVIC 02-14 final rules.

NOTE: The USCG has extended the GAP closing deadline to July 1, 2017. After that you may be restricted to only serve nationally (domestically).

RESOLVE Maritime Academy is proud to offer GAP Closer Courses to students seeking to complete the new requirements related to the USCG CFR-STCW and NVIC 02-14 final rules.

BRIDGE RESOURCE MANAGEMENT (BRM) - GAP CLOSER PRE-REQUISITE:

Our Bridge Resource Management Course is offered in order to fulfill the pre-requisite for the GAP Closer required Leadership and Management course for operational level deck officers. Every operational level deck officer is required to take the Leadership and Management Course before January 01, 2017.

ECDIS GENERIC IMO 1.27:

The USCG requires all STCW crew members operating on vessels equipped with ECDIS to complete the ECDIS training by December 31, 2016. If members do not complete this training, her or his STCW endorsement will have a limitation indicating that the endorsement will not be valid on vessels equipped with ECDIS. RESOLVE's ECDIS course fulfills this GAP Closer requirement.

ENGINE ROOM RESOURCE MANAGEMENT (ERM / ERRM):

RESOLVE's Engine Room Resource Management (ERM / ERRM) course satisfies the STCW amended training and assessment requirements. Completion of this course is required for ALL management level engineering officers prior to January 01, 2017

LEADERSHIP AND MANAGEMENT:

All operational level deck officers and management level engineering officers must take a leadership and management course before January 01, 2017. Operational level deck officers must take the pre-requisite course Bridge Resource Management prior to the Leadership and Management course.

MANAGEMENT OF ELECTRICAL & ELECTRONIC CONTROL EQUIPMENT:

This 1 week course is approved by the National Maritime Center as valid through February 28, 2018, therefore if you take this 1 week MEECE course at Resolve Maritime Academy, you receive credit for the full two week course AND at a 15% discount.

In accordance with the USCG GAP Closing requirements, if you currently have an STCW endorsement as a CE or a 2E (STCW second engineering officer also known as first assistant engineer), you need this MEECE training by December 31, 2017 for renewal of your STCW endorsement to be valid on January 01, 2017.

5-YEAR BASIC TRAINING REVALIDATION (BT) REQUIRED AFTER JANUARY 01, 2017:

Mariners will have to revalidate select fire-fighting / personal survival / fast rescue boat competencies that are too dangerous to conduct aboard the vessel. This is in addition to the one year of sea service in the last five years. Mariners without the sea service will have to complete an approved “BT refresher course". (Mariners may renew credentials prior the above date, with 1 year of sea service, for a full five years).

RESOLVE offers Personal Survival Revalidation (4 hours) and Basic Firefighting Revalidation (4 hours)
