THE U.S. COAST GUARD HAS EXTENDED THE GAP CLOSER COMPLETION REQUIREMENT TO JULY 1, 2017:
The U.S. Coast Guard has extended the completion date for GAP Closers. The new date is now July 1, 2017. Keep in mind that relevant U.S. mariners not in compliance by July 1, 2017 will be ineligible to serve on foreign flag vessels.
THE U.S. COAST GUARD'S FINAL RULING HAS BEEN PUBLISHED:
The U.S. Coast Guard's Implementation of the Amendments to the International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification, and Watchkeeping for Seafarers, 1978 and changes to National Endoresments;Final Rule has been posted. This STCW final ruling provides important information regarding updated STCW certification of deck and engineer officers, as well as those crew members working onboard vessels equipped with ECDIS that require action by January 1, 2017. Relevant U.S. mariners not in compliance with the STCW Convention would be ineligible to serve on foreign flag vessels.
