Certification
Please bring your passport or government-issued driver’s license for identification, as required by the Flag State. Photo ID is also required for entry into Port Everglades. Students who do not bring valid identification will not be permitted to enter the port or attend the course. No weapons of any kind are permitted in Port Everglades.
Dress Code
On firefighting field days, students must wear long pants, a shirt, and socks. Closed-toe shoes, such as tennis shoes or boots, are required. Flip-flops, sandals, and other open-toe shoes are not permitted. Coveralls or boiler suits are recommended. Jewelry, including rings, watches, and necklaces, is strongly discouraged. Please leave these items at home on firefighting days, as we cannot guarantee their safety.
For water survival training days, please bring a swimsuit, a towel, and a full change of dry clothes to wear after the pool exercises.
Personal Belongings, Jewelry, & Facial Hair Policy
Resolve Maritime Academy is not responsible for jewelry or personal items that are lost or damaged during training. To minimize distractions, please turn off phones and pagers during class. If needed, the office staff can take messages for you.
Pre-Requisites
To take this course, students must hold a valid STCW certification issued within the last five years and have at least one year (360 days) of sea service, along with continuing training during that period. Students should be in reasonably good physical condition and be able to speak English.
Course Records
Course records are kept on file for a minimum of 5 years. Should you lose your certificate, a certified copy can be produced for you at a nominal fee.
Attendance
Attendance at all classroom sessions and field exercises is required. A training certificate will be issued only to students who pass both the written and practical assessments. If a student cannot complete the course for any reason, they may re-enroll and finish it within 12 months at no additional cost. After 12 months, the full course must be repeated.
Assumption of Risk
Training hazards and risks include strenuous physical activity; climbing and descending ladders and other elevated access points; possible operation of fire apparatus; exposure to high temperatures; working in hazardous environments while wearing breathing apparatus and chemical protective clothing; using hand and power tools and fire hoses; and working in areas with little or no visibility. These activities are directly related to field performance skills.
Additional risks may include, but are not limited to, jumping into the water from a designated height while wearing a life preserver; strenuous physical activity such as rescuing an unconscious person in the water and safely bringing them into a life raft; righting an overturned life raft; treading water; and swimming about 50 yards in water deeper than 6 feet.
Lateness
Students are expected to arrive on time each day. Class begins promptly at the scheduled start time. Late arrivals disrupt instruction and may prevent students from meeting course objectives and attendance requirements. Please plan to arrive 15 minutes early. Tardiness is not acceptable and may result in denial of entry to class or other action consistent with course policies. Delays caused by transportation issues, illness, personal matters, or other circumstances beyond Resolve Maritime Academy’s control are not the responsibility of the academy. Because of hurricane risk in South Florida, Resolve Maritime Academy may cancel a scheduled course or ask current students to leave the premises and move to a safe location if the National Hurricane Center issues a Hurricane Watch or Warning for the area. Any course delayed due to a hurricane will be rescheduled at the earliest mutually agreeable opportunity.
Hydration
Please drink plenty of water during field exercises, as they can be physically demanding. Coffee, tea, and water are available at the training center throughout the day.
Transportation
Parking is limited at the training facility, so carpooling is recommended. Vehicles entering Port Everglades may be searched by law enforcement officers. Please allow extra travel time when arriving for class or returning from lunch. The storage or charging of e-bicycles and e-scooters is prohibited inside any Resolve Academy-owned or -operated property due to the risk of fire or explosion. This includes stairwells, hallways, and common areas.
Student Conduct
Students are expected to behave professionally at all times. Resolve Maritime Academy reserves the right to ask a student to leave the premises for misconduct in the classroom or during practical exercises. Misconduct includes any behavior that is offensive or that jeopardizes the safety of students, instructors, or others.
Refund/Cancellation Policy for Deposits and/or Full Course Payment
In rare cases, a course may be canceled due to last-minute withdrawals by enrolled students that reduce the class below the minimum safe number of participants. We take every reasonable precaution to avoid this situation, but we ask that you call 7 days before the class start date to avoid unnecessary travel or expense. If Resolve Maritime Academy cancels a course, its responsibility is limited to the fees paid to Resolve Maritime Academy.
If you cancel 2 weeks before the class start date, 80% of the payment received will be refunded or transferred to a future date.
If you cancel 1 week before the class start date, 50% of the payment received will be refunded or transferred to a future date.
If you cancel less than 1 week before the class start date, no refunds will be issued.
Firearms
Firearms are prohibited on all property owned or operated by Resolve.
